Homemade beard oil is a great way to keep a beard soft and prevent it from getting itchy. There are a lot of options out there but they can be pricey and have questionable ingredients. Making your own is a great option!
In the past, I’ve purchased a few different beard oils for my husband. I have found it can be a bit hard to find ones that have good ingredients. They can also be a bit pricey, considering the size of the bottles.
Really the oil in the beard oil is what does all the work. Sometimes there are essential oils that have properties that help but in general, they are there for scent.
Tea tree oil and lavender are both good choices for having antibacterial and healing properties. My husband, however, doesn’t want to smell like those things, he wants beard oil to make his beard softer and to help with any itching. That’s one of the great things about making your own products, you can make them work for your needs.
I’ve seen beard oil ranging in price from about $10-$30, sometimes even more. This homemade version costs about $5.73 and that includes the cost of the bottle which can be used over and over.
Once you have the bottle refills costs around $0.52. The cost will vary if you use different essential oils or switch the oil but it should be around $6 with the bottle cost and less than $1 for refills.
For my bottle, I used an amber glass bottle with a dropper that I already had on hand. It was a bit large but I just filled it halfway and it works just fine. You do want tobe sure to use an amber or blue glass bottle because essential oils shouldn’t be exposed to light.

Instructions
- Mix the oil and essential oils.
- Using a funnel, or if like me you can’t find your small funnel use a measuring cup with a pouring spout, pour the mixture into your bottle.
- You can make a label for your oil or leave it as is.
Notes
Be careful as some essential oils are irritating to the skin. Use as little as possible and check to see if the oil you want to use should be used on the skin.

My son has one of those long “hipster” beards and uses beard oil. My mom made him some. 🙂 Glad to see you are using NOW products. They are wonderful, aren’t they? Family friends of ours own the company right here in IL. My mom has worked for them for many years. She retired 8 years ago, but loves working there so much, that she still works there part-time at age 75. 😉 They are a very ethical, moral company with the highest quality standards and they treat their employees very well.

Hi. How much of the ingredients would you need to make a full bottle?

It would depend on the size bottle. The bottle I linked to is 2 oz so a full bottle is what the recipe will make. If you have a 4 oz bottle just double it and so on.
